Video Poker is a popular game that can be wagered on in casinos around the world, or in your house on your computer, using a net connection. The rules are very straightforward and consist of the player trying to get the greatest mixture of cards possible in order to come away with cash. On this account it is much the same as a normal game of poker, minus the line of contact with any other players. Of course, techniques employed during a real-life game of poker, such as bluffing, will be useless here.
The game of Electronic Poker begins when the gambler inserts credits (either tokens, tickets or money) into the machine and presses the deal button. A five card hand will be "handed out" on the screen.
The Video Poker game also has hold buttons, and enthusiasts will need to now choose which cards to hold and which to throw away. For the cards the gambler wishes to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons should be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can decide to keep any number of cards they want, from all to none.
After the gambler has chosen which cards he or she wishes to retain, the player will then press ‘draw’, which will mean that any fresh cards will be needed they will be handed out. The hand is now completed, with the Video Poker machine scanning the hand to see if it matches any of the winning hands shown on the payout schedule.
Normally, the lowest succeeding hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the award money growing for each better hand. A common list of winning hands starts with jacks or better, and moves on to two pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It definitely goes without saying that the pay out schedule can change from machine to machine, so that discerning bettors are agile enough to pick the most beneficial game each and every instance.
Once the first round has played out, the player can either choose to remain on in an attempt to maximize their winnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any credits that they may have won. Further, a few versions of the game give the player an opportunity to increase their profits, in which case another round is played. There are also variations among specific machines, with some virtual decks including wild cards and other differing aspects to enhance playability.
